ABOUT PSU’S

PSUs are government-owned corporations or state-owned enterprises created by the Government of India to undertake commercial activities on behalf of government. Several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the aegis of Government of India regularly provide tremendous employment opportunities in various technical and management areas. All these Public sector companies recruit Engineer Trainee (ET) based on the GATE scores. Initially they would shortlist candidates based on GATE scores and then the process is followed by GD and Interview for assessment of different facets of knowledge.

PSU’S ELIGIBILITY

Minimum Eligibility:

  1. You should have B.E. /B.Tech. /B.Sc. in Engg. Degree required
  2. If you are a final-year students, the final result of 8th semester and mark-sheets must be presented at the time of interview.
  3. minimum required number varies for different PSUs companies generally,60%-70% for general and 50%-60% for the SC/ST/OBC/PH.
  4. PSUs allow for two years gap.
  5. Only candidates between 21 to 30 years are selected.
  6. Three years of relaxation is offered to OBC.
  7. No more than 5 years relaxation is granted to SC/ST.
  8. It is important to appear for GATE exam before applying.

Some high profiled PSUs are:

HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) needs minimum 65% marks for General/ OBC and minimum of 55% Marks for SC/ST

HPCL(Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited) needs minimum 60% marks for General/ OBC and minimum of 50% Marks for SC/ST

NTPC(National Thermal Power Corporation ) needs minimum 60% marks for General/ OBC and minimum of 50% Marks for SC/ST

BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited) needs minimum 60% marks in aggregate
DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization)

HOW TO APPLY

There is Two hiring process of PSU’s :

1. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)

All these public sector compnies recruite Engineer Trainee (ET) based on the GATE scores. Initially they would shortlist candidates based on GATE scores and then the process is followed by GD and Interview for assessment of different facets of knowledge.

2. UGC / NET

The National Education Testing Bureau of University Grants Commission (UGC) conducts National Eligibility Test (NET) to establish eligibility for lectureship and award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) to maintain minimum standard for the candidate

BSNL- JTO (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.- Junior Telecom. Officers)

Some companies ask candidates to show their GATE score when applying. They have replaced GATE score with written test. Therefore I will urge you to appear for the General Aptitude Test for Engineering before applying for the job in any PSU company.

Each company has a separate notification for jobs. You will have to go through notification of each company and see whether there are vacancies for Engineering graduates of your stream. Only then you should apply for the job.
